A few Do’s and Don’ts to ensure many years of safe trouble free service from your Microwave.

Do Ensure that your Microwave is correctly Serviced by a Competent Engineer at the recommended interval.

Do Wipe your Microwave out after use, especially if there is a lot of condensation, and leave the door open for a while so that it can dry. This will help to prevent rust from forming on the oven lining and the inside face of the door.

Do Make sure there is adequate space behind and above your Microwave to enable air to circulate. This is necessary for the internal components to operate at a safe temperature, and in order for steam to escape from the Oven.

Do Clean your Microwave with cream cleansers, but don’t scrub too hard on the inside of the door if it has a plastic screen. Also, be careful when cleaning the Wave Guide Cover…this is a small square or round cover, either in the roof or on the right hand side of the Oven. It covers the hole through which the Microwave energy enters the oven.

If you have stubborn grease deposits, then try boiling a lemon in your Microwave…Yes, a lemon! Just cut a lemon up into a bowl of water and simply let it boil for a few minutes. Not only will the lemon loosen grease deposits, it will also get rid of any lingering smells of curry or fish etc.

Don’t Operate your Microwave without anything inside to absorb the power which is being produced. If you do, you will seriously damage the Magnetron (the main component) which will need to be replaced.

Don’t Put metal inside your Microwave, unless it is a Combination Oven designed for metal cooking utensils. An electrical charge will build up on any metal item placed in a Microwave, resulting in flashing and sparking inside the Oven Cavity. This will not only damage the Magnetron (see above) but will also mark the oven lining and the inner door screen. If in doubt, consult the instruction book.

Don’t Cover any vents! It’s all right to stand things on top of your Microwave as long as you DO NOT cover any air vents. Microwaves require a good flow of air in order to operate safely and any restriction of this airflow will result in damage.

Don’t Wipe the key pad on your Microwave with a wet cloth, as this will eventually lead to moisture penetrating the key pad, causing it to fail. Use a duster with some spray polish instead, this contains silicon and will not harm the key pad.
